A Kangaroo is among the exotic wild species rescued by officials from traffickers in Assam

Forest dept of Assam made a massive recovery of exotic wildlife species in Cachar. These include a Kangaroo, 6 Macaw parrots, 3 tortoises & 2 monkeys

forest department of Assam on Tuesday night me a massive recovery during regular frisking. recovery of exotic wildlife species has been me in Cachar. 

recovery includes a Kangaroo, six Macaw parrots, three tortoises and two monkeys. A vehicle bearing registration number TS 08 UB 1622 has been seized and two persons identified as Narsimha Reddy and Navnath Tukaram Daigude have been detained. In course of interrogation, y have revealed to forest personnel that consignment was heed to Guwahati.

It has been learnt that forest personnel were on a routine frisking for illegal timber when y intercepted vehicle at Lailapur Forest Sub Beat. One of forest personnel detected odours emanating from a truck and questioned driver about foul smell. driver tried to misle forest personnel saying that it was of rotten fruits. t convinced, forest personnel searched vehicle and found exotic animals packed in plastic containers.

matter is being investigated by Forest Range Officer of Hawaithang Range, D Deori. DFO has directed investigating forest official to ascertain health of wildlife by local veterinary doctors.

"It is against backdrop of vel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and its connection to wet markets, it’s high time we put an end to such practices of keeping se exotic species as pets and refrain from illegal wildlife tre," said Forest Range Officer, Deori, ding that identification of exact species is going on.
