Himachal makes World Record by preparing largest quantity of khichdi on Makar Sankranti
Himachal Pradesh has made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for preparing the largest quantity of khichdi that had to be tilted out of its enormous container with a crane in order to be served to devotees on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on Tuesday.

A team of 25 chefs cooked 1995 kg Khichdi
A team of 25 chefs cooked 1995 kg of dish at Tattapani in Mandi district in a vessel weighing 270 kg, with dimensions of four feet depth and seven feet diameter, that was specially acquired from Jaghari in Haryana, said state's tourism director Yunus Khan. chefs' team from Holiday Home hotel in Shimla took five hours -- from 4 AM to 9 AM -- to prepare stew, said deputy general manr of hotel Nand Lal Sharma.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur accepted certificate on behalf of state's Tourism and Civil Aviation department from Guinness World Records for preparing largest-ever 'bean and rice' dish. Earlier, record for making largest amount of khichdi -- 918.8 kg -- was held by celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor after he h represented Indian ministry of food processing industries at an event in New Delhi on vember 4, 2017, said Rishi Nath, an judicator of Guinness World Records.
As khichdi container was too heavy to be carried even by many people, a crane brought it at Tattapani from Jaghari. After khichdi was cooked, crane was also used to tilt vessel to bring dish out for serving it to devotees who took a holy dip at Sutlej river at Tattapani. Chief Minister said world record at Tattapani would furr develop place as a tourism hotspot.

Kimmi Sood, a Shimla councillor, told PTI annual trition of serving khichdi to devotees at Tattapani was started by her relatives in 1926 and has been going on ever since. w, this trition is being carried out under aegis of Durga Devi Bihari Lal Virochan Lal Trust, she said.
