On Friday, September 14, the local administration in Hyderabad started cleaning lakes after the visarjan of Lord Ganesha. “The entire process of Ganesh immersions in Hyderabad has completed. About 45,000 Ganesh idols were immersed mainly in Tank Bund and surrounding lakes of Hyderabad. After this, the next big challenge is to bring the roads of the city back to a normal state which includes major road repairs, physical infrastructure and fixing sanitation,” Musharraf Ali Faruqui, Additional Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation told ANI.

100 vehicles to carry the waste 

He also added that besides repairing road infrastructure, the cleaning process of lakes has begun immediately and around four amphibious vehicles have been deployed for the purpose. Around 100 vehicles will be used to carry the waste from the lake to the disposal facility. People all over the country immersed Ganesha idols on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, the day which marks the conclusion of the 11-day festival.

Over 38,000 idols immersed in Mumbai

In Mumbai, over 38,000 idols were immersed at 129 designated spots. As per sources, immersions of several big idols including the star attraction Lalbaugcha Raja continued till Friday morning. The immersions were held in every part of the city, from Shivaji Park in the central part of the city to Juhu and Versova on the western coast, and Aksa, Versova and Marve coasts in the northern part of the city.

A statement issued by the BMC said, “By 9 am on Friday, 627 'sarvajanik' (public) Ganesha idols were immersed while the figure for small household idols stood at 30,403, taking the total number of immersions over the last 24 hours to over 38,000.” In neighbouring Thane, a total of 6,190 idols were immersed. According to figures released by the Thane Municipal Corporation, it included 5,574 public Ganpati idols and 482 community ones.

Medical centres and watch-towers were set up, as well as special help desks for missing children, which were also in place accompanies by drone cameras to monitor the situation. Various wings of police, including the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Riot Control, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, and Quick Response Teams were deployed in the city.
