Indian Army in process to open parts of Siachen Glacier for tourists

After the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir and a union territory of Ladakh, India is planning to open up several army controlled places like Siachen Glacier

After  reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir leing to a separate Union Territory of Lakh, India is w planning to open up several high-altitude military locations such as Siachen glacier to common people. According to Army sources, Army Chief has stated that people are curious to kw more about army life and its challenges. Army has been allowing common people to visit Army's training centres and institutions, but w plans are underway to open forward posts such as Siachen glacier as well, ding that it would be good for national integration, Army sources quoted Army Chief’s statement in conference.

World's highest battle-field

Siachen Glacier, kwn to be world’s highest battle-field is watched over by Indian Army all year round, extremely harsh wear conditions and treacherous terrains in region alone are testament to humongous challenges faced by men and women in uniform. Sources have said that Indians visiting Lakh and nearby areas have requested to allow m to visit places such as Tiger Hill in Kargil where Indian Army defeated Pakistan during 1999 war.

Pakistan has say in this matter

On being asked wher Pakistan will create issues over  opening up of Siachen, army sources said that area lies completely under jurisdiction of Indian government and Pakistan has say in internal matter of country. Army is currently in process of identifying more of se locations and positions where civilians can come and see how soldiers operate. Indian government started allowing civilians to trek from Siachen Base Camp to high altitude locations since 2007. Siachen Glacier is at a height of around 11,000 feet at base camp and goes beyond 21,000 feet at higher reaches. It is a part of Lkh which has been recently separated from Jammu and Kashmir and me into a separate union territory.
