Jharkhand: Two Jawans martyred in encounter with Maoists near Ranchi

As per news agency PTI, 2 jawans have been martyred as Maoists opened fire while the forces undertook an encounter operation near Ranchi's Dassam falls

Two jawans have been martyred in Jharkhand in a Police-Maoist encounter on Friday morning. As per sources, Jharkhand Police carried out the encounter operation after receiving information that Maoists are planning to carry out attacks in some part of Jharkhand. Sources also informed that the area where the encounter operation took place is 40 kilometres from the state's capital Ranchi. The encounter operation went on for a few hours, claiming lives of two jawans. 

As per news agency PTI, maoists opened fire on security forces. Following a tip that members of the banned CPI (Maoist) group had gathered near Dassam falls between Bundu and Namkum, security forces rushed to the area around 4 am, Additional Director General of Police Murari Lal Meena told PTI. "The Maoists opened fire on the security forces and two of our district jawans suffered bullet injuries. While one jawan was declared brought dead at the hospital, another succumbed during treatment," the ADGP said. The security forces retaliated but there was no report of any casualty from the other side, Meena said adding search operations are underway.

Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh

In a separate incident, PTI reported that two Maoists, with a bounty on their heads, were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said on Saturday. The gunbattle broke out at around 11:30 pm on Friday in a forest near Kutrem village in the Kirandul police station area when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and local police were out on an anti-Naxal operation, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava told PTI over the phone. After a brief exchange of fire, when the security forces personnel tried to zero in on the ultras, they escaped into the dense forest taking advantage of darkness, he said. During a search of the encounter spot, the bodies of two ultras were found, Pallava said.
