Kamlesh Tiwari murder: 'All aspects being probed', says DGP OP Singh

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police OP Singh has stated that 'all aspects being probed' in the Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari murder case.

The Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police OP Singh reached the Additional Directorate General (ADG) Lucknow Zone office and held a meeting to take updates on the ongoing probe in the murder of Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari on Friday, October 19. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, DGP Singh stated, “We held discussions over the ongoing investigation. We have contacted Gujarat and Maharashtra ATS. Our team has also spoken to the woman who was seen in the CCTV footage. All aspects of the incident are being probed and all options are kept open."

'We are observing social media very deeply'

The DGP added that police is keeping a tab on social media to prevent any rumour-mongering."We are monitoring social media. If required we will take legal action so that no false information is spread among people. We are observing social media very deeply and minutely", he said. Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had detained one person here in connection with the murder of Kamlesh Tiwari at his residence in Lucknow. 

On Saturday, former Governor of UP Ram Naik had said that such individual incidents are not a reflection of state's law and order. "It is not right to derive a conclusion on such one-two incidents. If anyone is murdered, it is governments work to look into it and ensure that such incidents don't happen and Chief Minister Yogi will work in this direction. UP is a very large state. I am concerned but the Chief Minister will do what needs to be done" the Governor said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to meet the family members of Hindu Samaj Party chief Kamlesh Tiwari on Sunday. The Chief Minister will be meeting the family at 11 am, as per sources. Earlier on Saturday, Yogi Adityanath said that the murder of Hindu Samaj Party chief Kamlesh Tiwari was "an act of mischief to create terror". He also mentioned that such incidents will not be tolerated and those involved will not be spared.

About the case:

The former chief of Hindu Mahasabha, Kamlesh Tiwari, was killed sometime on Friday afternoon inside his residence in the Naka Hindola area in Lucknow. He was shot multiple times and also stabbed by unidentified assailants. Soon after the attack, he was admitted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. While the assailants managed to flee the spot, a revolver was also recovered from the site of the crime. Police stated that the accused spent around 30 minutes with him on the pretext of gifting him, sweets. The police registered an FIR on a complaint filed by Tiwari’s wife where she accused two persons of having threatened to kill her husband in 2016.
