Kargil Vijay Diwas: Indian Army and Air Force pay tribute to indomitable Kargil war heroes

Among many war victories, Indian Armed Forces defeated Pakistan on this day in the Kargil conflict after three months of the intense war in 1999, 21 years back.

Among many conflicts over years between India and Pakistan, Indian Armed Forces defeated Pakistan on this day in Kargil war after three months of intense fighting in 1999, 21 years back. Indian Army of Sunday paid tribute to its fallen heroes for ir "undaunted cour, indomitable valour and sacrifice" in protecting territorial integrity and sovereignty of country.

Kargil war

During winter of 1998–1999, some elements of  Pakistani Armed Forces were covertly training and sending Pakistani troops and paramilitary forces, some allegedly in guise of mujahideen terrorists, into territory on Indian side of LoC. ir full-scale intrusion came to light in May, to which Government of India responded with Operation Vijay, a mobilisation of 200,000 Indian troops to reclaim Indian territories. However, nature of mountaius terrain led to near about 30,000 including  Paramilitary forces of India and air force being deployed in conflict zone. Indian Air Force was also involved wherein it launched Operation Safed Sagar in support of mobilisation of Indian land forces on 26 May. Kargil war remains yet ar shining example of might of Indian Armed Forces which has capacity and will to throttle any aggression from adversary.

On July 26, Indian Air Force has also taken to Twitter to pay tribute to "indomitable cour" of war heroes of Kargil. 

Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu has also paid tribute to heroes who led nation to victory in fiercely fought battle 21 years back.

"Today, on occasion of 21st anniversary of 'Operation Vijay', I salute valour of Indian Army whose cour and bravery earned victory for nation in Kargil War," vice president tweeted.

"My tribute to soldiers who received Veeragati in Kargil War, who made ir supreme sacrifice to protect unity and sovereignty of country. nation will always be grateful for his valour and patience of his family," he said in following tweet.
