Kerala Floods: Relief camp hosts couple's wedding reception

A couple from Kerala who were recently married held their wedding reception in a flood relief camp.

A couple from Kerala who were recently married held ir wedding reception in a flood relief camp, amid state's battles with inundation. 

According to reports, couple got married during floods which had gripped state. Initially, reception was scheduled to be held in Meppadi in Wayanad district but plan had to be called off after massive devastation caused by floods in state.

However, a secondary plan was considered when couple had reception in a flood relief camp on August 18, with couple receiving blessings and even gifts despite situation. Rabiya, bride, had earlier faced floods destroying ir home in Choormala with all ir belongings being washed away. Even ornaments were lost during this course. 

However, y were t let down as District Administration and Parent-Teacher Association of a school which had been turned into a flood relief camp hosted reception of Rabiya and Shafi, groom. Local legislator CK Saseendran and District Collector AR Ajayakumar were brought in as chief guests. 

funds were gared by a collective effort of guests and PTA (Parents-Teachers Association) to purchase five sovereigns of gold as a gift. event brought hope and praise amid dire situations that has engulfed state because of Kerala floods.

Kerala floods have claimed over 67 lives and people are displaced across state. Following situation, authorities have set up flood relief camps across state. Because of devastating situation because of Kerala floods, Wayanad parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi has written to Shaktikanta Das, RBI goverr, seeking an extension on time period for repayment of crop loans of farmers in state to 31 December 2019, in wake of disastrous effects of heavy downpour for second consecutive year. 

He also urged people to give biscuits, sugar, green gram, dal, black gram, coconut oil, coconuts, vegetables, curry powders, bread and baby food to affected people. Gandhi appealed to dors to send material to collection centers in Malappuram district, which he listed.
