Magic of biryani, haleem earns Hyderabad 'Creative City' tag of UNESCO
Famous for its delectable biryani, Hyderabad has been adjudged as 'Creative City' in gastronomy category by the UNESCO on the occasion of World Cities Day.

Famous for its delectable biryani and haleem, Hyderabad has been adjudged as 'Creative City' in gastronomy category by the UNESCO on the occasion of World Cities Day on Friday. Hyderabad is one of the two cities from India, among the total 66 urban settlements that are to join the UNESCO’s Network of Creative Cities, which now has a total of 246 members. The other city from India, Mumbai has been designated as Creative City of Films.
Biryani — an evergreen classic
The city of pearls, Hyderabad is also famous for its lip-smacking biryani. Known for its rich culture and heritage, Hyderabad was ruled by Nizams before Independence. Biryani is a rice-based Indian delicacy, flavoured with various spices, veggies, chicken or meat. One can find biryani stalls in almost every nook and corner of the city. Several varieties and flavours of biryani are available at different stalls in Hyderabad. Among the countless eateries, Bawarchi, Paradise, Hotel Shadab serve biryani like no other.

However, Hyderabadi cuisine goes beyond biryanis; finger-licking dishes like haleem, luscious kebabs, dalcha, mirchi ka salan, paya, malai korma, gosht pasinde and desserts like double ka meetha, qubaani ka meetha, shahi tukra, Hyderabadi phirni, sheer khurma, shahi tukda will certainly soothe your palate.

Ministry of Culture congratulates Hyderabad
The Ministry of Culture took to Twitter and congratulated Hyderabad for being selected as the 'Creative City' under the gastronomy category. The tweet reads: "Hyderabad, a world-famous city for biryani and other delicious dishes, has been named as a creative city for cooking by UNESCO."
