As per sources, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray requested the deployment of central police forces in the state in the virtual meeting with PM Modi on Monday

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Monday requested deployment of central police forces in state in virtual meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as per sources. He reportedly observed that such a move would provide relief to police personnel in Maharashtra who are working without any rest. Incidentally, Thackeray in his address to residents of Maharashtra on May 8 had hinted at possibility of state government seeking additional forces from Centre to ensure that overworked police personnel can take rest in rotation. However, on that occasion, he had dismissed rumour about Indian Army taking charge of Mumbai city to control vel coronavirus outbreak.

Thackeray reportedly opposes lifting lockdown

Sources revealed that Thackeray also sought monetary assistance for farmers to tide over situation. He also reportedly cautioned that migrant workers leaving state might risk spreading virus back to ir native places. reafter, Maharashtra CM stressed that migrant workers should be encourd to stay back and t be forced to leave state, according to sources. Reportedly, Thackeray called upon PM to allow more relaxations instead of lifting lockdown altoger. He also appealed to Centre for allowing operation of local trains for essential services staff and urged it to permit more long-distance trains for ferrying migrants and stranded people from Maharashtra, sources added.

Fadnavis demands free intra-state transport of migrant workers and students

Currently, re are 22,171 confirmed vel coronavirus cases in Maharashtra out of which 4,199 patients have recovered while 832 casualties have been reported. Earlier in day, former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis demanded Maha Vikas Aghadi government to provide free bus service to ensure smooth movement of migrant workers desirous of returning to ar district within state. He contended that this facility should be also extended to students stranded in cities who want to go back to ir native place.
