Maoist with a bounty of Rs 8 lakh nabbed by Chattisgarh's Special Intelligence Branch

A hardcore Maoist with a bounty of Rs 8 lakh was arrested on Thursday from Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, police said.

The arrested Maoist Muiwa alias Gaganna alias Dokra is a member of the Manipur-Nuwapada Divisional Committee of Maoists. Muiwa was nabbed by a team of the state police's Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) from the forests of Rawas and Amapani villages. The Deputy Inspector General (Anti-Maoist operations) Sundarraj P confirmed the report in a telephonic conversation.

On June 18, Dokras wife Seema, a Sitanadi Divisional Committee member and secretary of the Sitanadi Area Committee of Maoist, was killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) personnel in the Borai area of Dhamtari district.

Ever since the encounter, the Maoist group had dispersed and its cadres had split into different areas, the IPS officer said. Meanwhile, the SIB got a tip-off about the location of Dokra in Kanker and nabbed him, Sundarraj added. Dokra, a native of Baswapur village in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, had a history of incidents ranging from murder, loot and torching of vehicles in Gariaband and Dhamtari districts of Chhattisgarh bordering Odisha, the officer added. 

The captured Maoist, had a bounty of Rs 8 lakh on his head. In addition, he also had links with the outlawed CPI (Maoist) for last 30 years, the DIG said. Since last one decade, Dokra was running the Maoist activities in Gobra, Chhotegobra, Chandanbahra, Bhaisamuda, Matiyabahra, Chargaon, Pandripani, Pendra, Ghoragaon and other villages of Dhamtari and Gariaband districts, located around 80 and 90 km away from state capital Raipur, respectively, he added.
