BSP supremo Mayawati demands probe into deaths during UP's violent anti-CAA agitation
Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Wednesday called on the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the deaths in the weeks-long anti-CAA, NRC agitation.

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Wednesday called on Uttar Pradesh government to investigate deaths in weeks-long anti-CAA, NRC agitation. In a tweet, Mayawati said, "It would be better if government came forward to properly investigate deaths in anti-CAA / NRC violence in UP and help those who were incent among m." At least 18 people have been reported killed in violent anti-Citizenship Amendment Act agitation in UP.

Mayawati's demand comes amid National Human Rights Commission of India (NHRC) serving a tice to Director-General of Police of state over instances of violence. This comes a day after a video of clashes between Police and protestors was accessed by Republic TV from Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. As per sources, NHRC has sought a detailed report from DGP about human rights violation in state.

Eighteen people including an 8-year-old have reportedly lost ir lives amid violent protests against CAA in state. Clashes broke out in various parts of Uttar Pradesh including – Meerut, Luckw, Aligarh, Rampur, Kanpur. government had suspended internet services in some areas and even imposed Section 144 of CrPc to curb agitation. As per reports, as many as 5,400 people have been taken under custody to date.

CM's threat of 'revenge'
Over 50 shops in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar were sealed after CM Yogi Adityanath openly swore to take "revenge" from protesters. "y have been captured in video and CCTV foot. We will take revenge," chief minister said. However, re is law to seal and auction properties of those guilty over dam to public property through violence.
Chief Minister’s office also added, “ Prime Minister has already stated clearly that citizenship law is t against any caste, creed, religion but it guarantees protection to every citizen of India. Even n, this kind of violent demonstration is like denying law of India." Yogi Adityanath has also appealed to all people t to get into any deception and cooperate with government in maintaining peace. Chief Minister said that one can be allowed to take law into hands of violence and violence.”
