Responding to a columnist's question on the Zomato's food policy, former Jammu-Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, on Wednesday explained that the food app only delivered the customers' choice of food. He added that Zomato did not make food choices and certainly does not force its choices down anyone's throats.
The journalist - Seema Goswami, had asked whether Zomato forced 'Halal food' down its customers' throats.
Earlier in the day, Zomato India received massive praise on social media on Wednesday with its befitting reply to a customer, who cancelled his order because the delivery guy who was assigned for his food delivery was a "non-Hindu". Responding to the customer's comment that he cancelled his order because the delivery guy was a "non-Hindu", Zomato India said that food does not have a religion. It is a religion.
Following this reply, Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal stood by his company, tweeting that principle were before business.
Responding to the development, NC leader Omar Abdullah also took to Twitter and praised the fitting reply by the food delivery app. He replied on Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal's tweet and said that he loves the app and thanked him for giving a reason to admire the company behind it.
Meanwhile, addressing the 'Halal' queries, Zomato has issued a statement clarifying that as a food aggregator the Halal tag is attached to them as a result of the restaurants seeking that distinction.
