PM Modi launches Light House projects in 6 states; says 'country took innovative approach'
PM Modi virtually laid the foundation stone of Light House Projects in six states under the Global Housing Technology Challenge (GHTC) -India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, January 1, virtually laid foundation stone of Light House Projects (LHP) in six states under Global Housing Techlogy Challenge (GHTC) - India. project, conceptualised by Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, aims to identify several invative techlogies from across world which are sustainable and disaster-resilient.
LHPs will be constructed at Indore, Rajkot, Chennai, Ranchi, Agartala & Luckw, comprising about 1,000 houses at each location along with allied infrastructure facilities

Speaking on occasion, PM Modi said that six projects will give a new direction to housing projects in country and strengn cooperative federalism. He said that earlier, central governments did t give priority to housing projects and were t concerned about quality of housing infrastructure.

“Today, country has taken a different approach. We have decided to change approach towards housing. Affordable Sustainable Housing Accelerators -India (ASHA-India) program is being run in country to promote research and startups in modern housing techlogy. Why should country t get better techlogy?” PM Modi remarked.
foundation stone of Light House Projects was laid in Tripura, Jharkhand, Uttar Presh, Mhya Presh, Gujarat and Tamil Nu. se six states were selected on basis of “Light House Projects challenge" conducted across country for States/UTs by Ministry on February 20, 2019. More about GHTC-India challenge, more than 50 companies working on invative techlogies participated in it.

Alternate techlogy to be used for building houses
PM Modi also spoke about techlogies that will be used at each of six locations. He said, ones in Indore, will t have walls me of bricks but “pre-fabricated sandwich panel” system will be used inste. On or hand, French “molithic concrete construction” techlogy will be used in Rajkot.
In Chennai, precast concrete system from United States and Finland will be used, while in Ranchi, Germany’s 3-D construction system will be used, PM ded. Moreover, New Zealand’s steel frame techlogy will be used in Agartala and techlogy from Cana will be used in Luckw, he said.

Under project, more than 1,000 houses will be built in each location for Ecomically Weaker Sections (EWS). maximum period of construction is 12 months from date se sites are given to construction ncy after statutory approvals.

Union minister for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, and chief ministers of Tripura, Uttar Presh, Mhya Presh, Gujarat, Tamil Nu, Andhra Presh and Jharkhand, respectively, also spoke at virtual garing on Friday.
