historical town of Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram, which is 60 kilometres away from Chennai city, is again getting global prominence ahe of informal bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. meeting is scheduled to take place from October 11-13, which is seen as a significant occasion.
Officials from MEA, Tamil Nu government and Chinese officials have been working day and night since last fortnight to ensure smooth manment during meeting between two world leers. state government is making sure that ros connecting Chennai and Mahabalipuram are developed. Some parts of ros including East coast ro, Old Mahabalipuram Ro and GST ro are being recoated.

Importance of Mahabalipuram for meeting
1,400-year-old structures in Mahabalipuram, including Shore Temple and Pancha Pandava raths, are being polished as foreign dignitaries will be visiting UNESCO recognised herit sites, built by Pallava kings from 7th to 9th century.
ancient Pallava town has been chosen for Modi-Xi meeting keeping in mind that Mahabalipuram was once port way, which h connections with South East Asian countries like China that goes back to 7th to 9th century. It is also believed that emperors before Pallavas also h tre deals with ancient China which ds significance to destination of meeting.

Preparation underway
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in area with around 2,000 policemen alrey on duty, and ditional 5,000+ policemen to be deployed when leers will visit town. Considering security reasons, shops in-and-around town have been shut down a week before meet and fishermen have been asked t to venture into sea. On Monday, Indian coast guard will begin patrolling and guarding 40 kms stretch from Chennai to Mahabalipuram.

Modi-Xi meet schedule
As per sources, both leers are expected to arrive at Chennai airport on evening of October 11, following which y will reach Mahabalipuram through ro. sources have also ded that PM Modi is hosting a dinner for Chinese dignitaries on October 11 night which will be followed by cultural programmes. On second day, both leers will visit various cultural herit sites like Pancha Pandava raths and beach facing Shore Temple, followed by a closed-door meeting in evening. On morning of October 13, leers are expected to leave town. informal-bilateral meeting which is taking place between PM Modi Chinese President will be of diplomatic importance since tre factors will be discussed.
