Congress leer DK Shivakumar on Friday slammed Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa over incident of violence in protest against Citizenship Amendment Act in state. Different parts of country witnessed violent protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which was passed by Parliament and given assent by President last week.
dressing a press conference on Friday at KPCC, Shivakumar questioned Yediyurappa over implementing section 144 in state.

"Public has freedom to discuss, raise ir voice against anything in state, this shows your arrogance and proves that you are trying to snatch freedom of speech and expression from public," he said. Shivakumar said that he would t blame any officer for what is happening in state currently. " officials will follow what government directs m to do. I will t blame officers for anything and Chief Minister and Karnataka Home Minister would be held responsible for whatever is happening in state," he said.
"Section 144 has been invoked in state for reason, but just to suppress protests. Ramachandra Guha h even spoken against us when we were in power. Why can't you tolerate it w? When in power one should be rey to face and tolerate all se. Because of implementation of section 144, peaceful protests have turned violent," former Karnataka Minister said.

"If you ask for documents, people like me can submit. But what about villrs, those who have settled here to earn daily bre? From where y will show ir certificates and documents when y have t even enrolled in schools. What will you do if people don't submit documents? Will you put m into jail? How many people you will send to jail?" he questioned. "By bringing amendment to bill and implementing act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Smith Shah are disturbing unity of nation,"alleged Shivakumar.

Karnataka protests
Authorities in Karnataka have alrey clamped Section 144 of CrPc in various parts of state, including capital city Bangaluru and Mangaluru with immediate effect on Wednesday evening. Section 144 will be in force until December 21 at midnight. Chief Minister Yediyurappa accused Congress party of provoking protests that have broken out across country. He said that it is because of people like Congress MLA UT Kher that such things are happening. He furr stated that if this is continued, Congress would have to face consequences. Kher h recently claimed that state would "blow up in cinders if Yediyurappa government tried to implement Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
