Bihar Election 2020: NDA seat-sharing out; BJP & JD(U) to contest 121 & 115 seats each

BJP and JD(U) announced the seat-sharing deal for the upcoming Bihar Assembly election. While BJP will contest 121 seats, JD(U) will field only 115 candidates.

dressing a joint press conference on Tuesday, BJP and JD(U) anunced seat-sharing formula for upcoming Bihar Assembly election. In a significant climbdown for JD(U), it will contest only 115 seats on this occasion, ceding 7 seats for Jitan Ram Manjhi-led HAM. On or hand, BJP shall field candidates in 121 constituencies. While Bihar CM Nitish Kumar anunced that  Vikassheel Insaan Party will be accommodated in BJP's quota of seats, re was clarity on number of seats it will contest.

Senior leers including Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal, Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi and former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fnavis were present during briefing. Jaiswal lauded work done by NDA government including steps taken to control spre of COVID-19. Moreover, he me it clear that Nitish Kumar is undisputed leer of alliance in Bihar. He also exuded confidence in NDA winning a three-fourth majority in polls. Earlier, NDA ally LJP decided to fight Bihar polls separately owing to ideological differences with JD(U).

Bihar Assembly polls

Bihar Assembly has a strength of 243 members out of which 38 seats are reserved for SC and two for ST. In 2015 state polls, Mahagatbandhan comprising RJD, JD(U) and Congress won a whopping majority with 178 seats under leership of Nitish Kumar. On or hand,  BJP-led alliance won from only 58 constituencies. On July 26, 2017, Nitish Kumar stepped down as CM citing irreconcilable differences with RJD over corruption allegations against Tejashwi Yav and joined hands with its former ally BJP.

upcoming Assembly election will be held in 3 phases- October 28, vember 3 and vember 7. To decongest polling stations, voting time has been increased by one hour. Thus, people will be able to cast ir votes from 7 am to 6 pm barring for areas affected by Left-wing extremism.  counting of votes will take place on vember 10.
