Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher mourns former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit's demise

Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher offers condolence following the demise of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit.

Former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit passed away on Saturday, July 20, at the age of 81. As per media reports, she expired while undergoing heart surgery in France. She took her last breath reportedly at 03:30 PM. Several political leaders across party lines and eminent personalities grieved the sudden demise of the veteran Congress leader. Many of them took to social media to pay tribute to the departed soul. Her work, her political acumen, and her zealous leadership have undoubtedly been hailed by all.

Recently, Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher took to Twitter and extended condolence to Dikshit's family. The actress turned BJP lawmaker mourned the death of the veteran politician and said, "The heart is very sad due to the death of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. May God bless her soul and her family and loved ones have the power to endure this misery. Shanti Om"

Sheila Dikshit was the longest-serving woman Chief Minister in the country, serving for a period of 15 years from 1998 to 2013. She led Congress party to three consecutive electoral victories in Delhi, and recently on 10 January 2019, was made the Delhi State Congress chief. The Congress party fought the recent Lok Sabha elections in Delhi under her leadership. In July 2013, Sheila Dixit was awarded the 'Delhi Women of the Decade Achievers Award-2013' by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India.

However, In the December 2013 elections, Dikshit was defeated in New Delhi constituency by Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, who replaced her as Delhi's chief minister. Subsequently, she was sworn in as Governor of Kerala on 11 March 2014.
