Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi to meet Delhi, Haryana and Maharashtra Congress chiefs to discuss strategy for upcoming Assembly polls: Sources

After the Lok Sabha poll debacle, Congress president Rahul Gandhi seems to have geared up to discuss the party's preparedness in the states where Assembly elections are set to occur in the upcoming months.

Sources have reported on Tuesday, that Gandhi is slated to meet with party leaders from Maharashtra, Haryana, and Delhi in the coming week. He is reportedly set to meet Congress general secretary in-charge of Maharashtra Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC secretaries for the state, along with the PCC chief on Wednesday, to allegedly discuss their strategies for the Assembly polls in the state which are scheduled in October, this year.

As per sources Gandhi is scheduled to meet Congress general secretary in-charge of Haryana Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday while he is reportedly set to meet the leaders from Delhi on Friday. Sources also report this move by Gandhi was aimed to help infuse confidence in the party's rank and file.

The Congress party has currently been entangled in a leadership turmoil after Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation as Congress Chief during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on May 25, after the Congress managed to secure only 52 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections which also saw Gandhi lose his bastion -Amethi, to BJP leader Smriti Irani.

Rahul Gandhi Says Party, Not Him, Will Decide On His Successor

While the CWC and many Congress allies including RJD chief Lalu Yadav, JD(S) leader Kumaraswamy and other state Congress heads have rejected Gandhi's resignation, a few Congress leaders like Mani Shankar Aiyar have said that the party can have a 'Non-Gandhi' chief provided the Nehru-Gandhis remain active in the party and can help resolve a crisis in case serious differences arise.

Inspite of winning only a single seat in Uttar Pradesh- there have been demands from UP Congress leaders for the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the Congress face in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections.

Earlier on June 20, Gandhi himself had said that his party will decide on who his successor will be and not him while being adamant on stepping down as party president.
