In yet another shock for Congress ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections, General Secretary Satyajit Deshmukh is 'positively' considering joining Bharatiya Janata Party.

Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, Deshmukh stated, "I am not joining BJP today but I am considering it positively. Any decision on this will be taken after due discussions with my senior colleagues and constituents in Sangli."

A possible shift 

Satyajit Deshmukh stressed on the fact that he is not happy with his present political party. While acknowledging the reports of the 'possible shift', he said,

"I had to look for options because if I cannot do anything for my supporters, then there is no point in continuing here. But still, I would be taking the call after a proper discussion with my folks."

Satyajit Deshmukh is the son of former MPCC President and Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative council late Shivajirao Deshmukh. The Deshmukh family has a stronghold in Sangli district and Satyajit Deshmukh is considered as one of the prominent youth faces of the MPCC.

Huge blow for Congress ahead of State Polls

The streak of disappointment doesn't end here for the Congress as MLC Anandrao Patil, the right-hand man of senior Congressman Prithviraj Chavan, is said to be on his way to BJP. Reportedly, he is expected to join the ruling party in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis when the BJP’s Mahajanadesh Yatra reaches Satara. He has called a meeting with his supporters on September 13 in Karad where he is expected to announce his decision of joining the BJP.

Veteran Congress leader Kripashankar Singh also resigned from the party on Tuesday after days of uncertainty and being unable to concur with the party's take on the repeal of Article 370. Singh believes that the revocation united the country and that every individual and party should support the move. Kripashankar Singh's resignation was the second blow to the Congress in a single day after actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar resigned earlier on the same day. As per reports, Matondkar had written to the former Mumbai Congress Chief even before the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections had concluded saying that her campaign coordinators and other key party functionaries did not perform their duties for the poll campaigning.

With the elections nearing, Congress has multiple issues to solve in Maharashtra and has to even decide the President of the party after Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post on July 3.
