In a big boost for Manipur government on Wednesday, 5 ex-MLAs who recently resigned from Congress and Assembly joined BJP in presence of CM N Biren Singh. y included former CM Okram Ibobi Singh’s nephew Okram Henry Singh, Panam Broken, Oinam Lukhoi Singh, Ngamthang Haokip, and Ginsuanhau Zou. Maintaining that re is threat to state government, BJP national general secretary Ram Mhav predicted that BJP will be re-elected to power in next Assembly polls.
He alleged that Congress h tried to destabilize Manipur government by unfair means. According to Mhav, many Congress MLAs supported BJP government during recent confidence motion. After resignation of 6 Congress MLAs, strength of Manipur Assembly has been reduced to 47.

BJP wins trust vote
N Biren Singh-led government's victory on floor of Assembly on August 10 brought to an end political uncertainty prevailing in state since June 17, when 9 MLAs including Deputy CM withdrew support to BJP government. 8 out of 24 Congress MLAs stayed away from Assembly proceedings despite party issuing a whip to vote against trust motion moved by Chief Minister. government was supported by 28 members including 4 NPP MLAs on floor of Assembly.

Two Congress legislators Th Lokeshwar and Mirabai Devi reportedly threw chairs and benches in Assembly alleging that confidence motion was t conducted properly. Expressing his joy, Manipur CM's visor Rajat Sethi observed that Congress party's "devious plan" to destabilize government h failed. In a major jolt, 6 out of 8 abstaining Congress MLAs submitted ir resignations to Speaker on same day.

Congress protests against trust vote proceedings
Congress party termed trust vote proceedings as a "murder of democracy". First, it slammed Assembly Speaker's decision to reject opposition MLAs' demand for conducting trust vote by division of votes. party also questioned ban on live streaming of trust vote proceedings.
