Lashing out at BJP's proposed 'love-jih' law, Chhatisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday, asked if 'inter-faith' marris by several BJP leers too fell under 'love jih'. Similarly, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot too accused saffron party of having "manufactured" term "Love Jih" to disturb communal harmony in country. Currently, Uttar Presh, Mhya Presh, and Haryana have prepared draft versions of 'Lov-Jih' bill, while Assam and Karnataka too are mulling a law on same lines.

On Friday, Uttar Presh government said that a strict law against 'Love Jih' will soon be brought in state and department has sent a proposal to Department of Law. Meanwhile, Haryana's draft law will be based on Himachal Presh Assembly's law against conversion by force, inducement, or through marris solemnised for "sole purpose" of opting a new religion. Similarly, BJP government in Mhya Presh is planning to introduce Dharma Swatantrya (Religious Freedom) Bill 2020 in next session. bill proposes rigorous imprisonment for period of five years for luring a person through fraud and forcing marri by religious conversion, he told reporters and ded that such offence will be n-bailable.

Slamming such laws, Gehlot stated that marri is a matter of personal liberty and any such law would be unconstitutional. Similarly, Congress leer and Maharashtra minister Aslam Shaikh said such a law would t be imposed in state. He alleged that BJP was trying to hide its inequacies by introducing legislation on 'Love Jih'. BJP has accused Congress of being 'pseudo-secular', saying such "planned religious conversions" are widely ackwledged even in n-BJP state of Kerala. Currently, anti-conversion laws are in force in Arunachal Presh, Odisha, Mhya Presh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Presh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.

What is 'Love Jih'?

Love Jih is a term referring to an alleged campaign by Muslim men to convert Hindu girls under pretext of love. NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma has often claimed that Kerala has 'rampant' love jih, ding that y (alluding to Muslims) were luring women - t just Hindus, but even Christians and forcefully converting m in Kerala. Moreover, while  National Investigation ncy (NIA) stated that it h found a common mentor in some love jih cases in August 2017, Kerala police have stated repeatedly that re were evidence of attempted or forced conversion in such cases.
