Gajendra Singh Shekhawat calls Farm Laws 'much-awaited reforms' in agriculture sector

Shekhawat slammed political parties for trying to rake up non-issues, talking about how pro-militancy and Khalistani leaders had infiltrated the farmer protests

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Saturday slammed political parties for trying to rake up n-issues to fuel ir nda, talking about how pro-militancy and Khalistani leaders had infiltrated farmers' protest. "Political parties neglected in country are trying to create an issue out of n-issue from all reforms that are good for country just to facilitate ir politics," said Shekhawat. 

"In between protesting farmers, re are many such elements that support militancy, support Khalistan and insult Bharat Mata and tiranga. ir presence is a proof that protests have come in hands of Maoists," he added.

Discussing how agrarian laws were formed based on recommendations of  Swaminathan Committee, Shekhawat said that as a farmer, he could assure that y were 'much-awaited reforms' in  agriculture sector.

" three laws are a part of detailed plan to empower farmers under Modi Government. As a farmer, I can say that this is a much-awaited law of agriculture sector. This is because law was created after recommendations with experts and stakeholders from Swaminathan Committee's report. All three laws are born out of se. When in coming times, farmers have strengned se laws will be hailed as significant reforms." 

 Swaminathan Aayog report was released by  National Commission on Farmers (NCF) founded in 2004 under  chairmanship of Professor MS Swaminathan. Addressing ways to tackle farmer suicides in India, body's final report was released in October 2006.

Farmers protest continue

Even as multiple rounds of talks with farmer unions reach a stalemate, Centre has kept door open, extending an invitation to farmers for a discussion over three agrarian laws and has requested farmers to stop ir protests at Delhi's borders. Additionally, BJP will also organise 'press conferences' and 'chaupals' in all districts across country to allay fears over laws. Meanwhile, farmer unions have retaliated by approaching Supreme Court seeking a total repeal of laws and a nationwide farm waiver. y have also vowed to 'intensify protests'.

farmers are protesting over  Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020,  Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and  Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 passed by Parliament in September this year.
