'Public, police not safe': Priyanka Gandhi's salvo at Yogi govt over Kanpur encounter

Reacting to Kanpur encounter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took aim at the Yogi Aditynath government saying the law and order situation in UP has "deteriorated"

Kanpur encounter which left eight policemen de has heated up politics in Uttar Presh. Reacting to incident, Congress leer Priyanka Gandhi Vra took aim at Yogi itynath government saying law and order situation in UP has "deteriorated" and criminals have become "fearless". She also expressed her condolences to families of martyred cops.

Taking to Twitter, Priyanka, who has been aggressively cornering state BJP government over a host of issues, said that general public r police are safe in UP and vised Chief Minister ityanath to take strict action in case without any laxity.

" miscreants fired indiscriminately on police who went to capture m, in which 8 cops including CO, SO of UP police were killed. My condolences to families of se martyrs. Law and order situation in UP has deteriorated, criminals are fearless," Priyanka Gandhi Vra wrote in Hindi on Twitter, ding, " public and police are t safe. CM himself has responsibility of law and order. After such a terrible incident, y should take strict action. re should be laxity."

Rahul Gandhi too hit out at UP government over killing of eight policemen, saying if police is t safe, how can people be. "Ar proof of 'Gundaraj' in UP. When police are t safe, how will public be? My heartfelt condolences are with families of slain martyrs and I wish injured a speedy recovery," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Kanpur encounter

encounter took place when a police team was approaching to arrest Vikas Dubey, a history-sheeter facing 60 criminal cases, in Dikru vill under Chaubeypur police station on intervening night of Thursday and Friday, police said. As police team was about to reach hideout of dreed criminal, a hail of bullets was showered on m from a building rooftop, leaving Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables de, officials said.

Two criminals allegedly involved in killing have been neutralised, a senior police officer told media on Friday.

Chief Minister Yogi ityanath has expressed condolences to families of eight cops and has ordered Director General of Police, HC Awasthi, to take strict action against criminals. He also sought a report on incident.

As news of incident surfaced, Samajwi Party chief Akhilesh Yav targeted ityanath government by alleging that criminals and ruling government have both colluded in killing of policemen. Besides Yav, Om Prakash Rajbhar, National President of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, also lambasted at state government by saying "this is what Ramrajya is called under BJP rule" and asking CM's resignation.
