Post passage of bills, PM Modi reassures farmers on MSP system & government procurement

Terming the passage of the farm bills in the Parliament as a watershed moment, PM Modi reiterated that the MSP system and government procurement will continue.

Terming pass of farm bills in Parliament as a "watershed moment", PM Modi on Sunday reiterated that MSP system and government procurement will continue. Earlier in day,  Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 were cleared by Rajya Sabha via a voice vote. According to him, aforesaid legislation would ensure a complete transformation of agriculture sector and empower crores of farmers.

He ded that se bills would enhance efforts to double income of farmers and ensure greater prosperity for m. Moreover, PM predicted that farmers shall have easier access to futuristic techlogy to boost production and yield better results. He gave an assurance that NDA government will do everything possible to support m and facilitate a better life for ir coming generations.

Ruckus over farm bills

aforesaid bills were introduced by Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar to replace ordinances promulgated on June 5.  Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 aims at freeing  farmers from constraints of state Agriculture Produce Market Committees whereby y would be able to sell ir produce anywhere. On or hand,  Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 protects and empowers farmers to eng with processors, wholesalers, large retailers, exporters for farm services. 

After pass of se bills in Lok Sabha, Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Bal resigned from Union Cabinet in protest. Before bills were cleared by Upper House, opposition indulged in considerable amount of ruckus. After Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson Harivansh Narayan Singh refused to consider demand for a division of votes on a resolution to send bills to a Select Committee, TMC MP Derek O'Brien climbed former's podium, broke his microphone and tore rule book. Ar farm bill passed by Lok House-  Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020 is yet to be tabled in Rajya Sabha.
