In latest development,Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vra has been denied permission by UP government to hold a rally, citing situation due to COVID-19. Congress leer was expected to organize a rally in support of farmers in  Saharanpur's Gandhi Park on February 8. district ministration has denied Priyanka Gandhi Vra permission for rally citing restrictions in place due to COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, Congress party has extended its full support to call for 'Chakka jam' from farmers across country between 12 pm to 3 pm.

BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait on Friday has cited a third reason for t holding a 'Chakka Jam' in Uttar Presh and Uttarakhand - claiming evidence of attempts to spre violence. Previously, he claimed that reason for t having a chakka-jam in two states is that those farmers can be called to Delhi at any time. Apart from this, he also said that sugar-cane farmers have decided t to participate in movement - opting to issue a memorandum to state government detailing ir demands. Sanyukt Kisan Morcha - unions protesting at Delhi borders have called for an all-India roblock on national and state highways from 12 on to 3 PM - apart from Uttarakhand, Uttar Presh and Delhi.

Congress extends support to Chakka jam

In a big development on Friday, Congress party anunced its support for Chakka Jam (ro blocke) call given by farmers for February 6. Mentioning that lakhs of farmers are protesting at Delhi borders for last 73 days, Congress general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal accused Centre of opting new tactics daily to malign agitation and tire protesters. Alleging that Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar misled Rajya Sabha earlier in day, he said that Union government h itself agreed to move 18 amendments to agrarian bills after listening to grievances of farm unions.

According to Venugopal, government brought in farm legislation without any consultation to benefit certain industrialists. In a statement, he urged Centre to shed arrogance and repeal  Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020,  Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and  Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. Moreover, senior Congress functionary requested party workers to extend all possible support to farmers during Chakka Jam while ensuring that ambulances, senior citizens, women and children should t be inconvenienced.
