Punjab CM writes to PM Modi; urges him to not go ahead with 'anti-farmer ordinances'

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday urged Prime Minister t to go ahe with ir legislation of 'anti-farmer ordinance' that was presented in Parliament earlier today. Punjab government also refuted Centre’s claim that Punjab was taken on board before promulgation of anti-farmer Ordinances.

CM is slated to le an 11-member delegation of his party on Wednesday to submit a memorandum to Goverr against Ordinances. An official spokesperson said that delegation will include Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar along with some ministers and MLAs of party.

In his letter to PM Modi, Captain Amarinder Singh urged former to t pursue Ordinances and also to make MSP a statutory right of farmers. 

Drawing Prime Minister’s attention to his June 15 demi-official letter on issue, Captain Amarinder pointed out in his letter today that “ farmers of Punjab, as well as most political parties, have urged Union Government to withdraw se Ordinances as y will cause irreparable dam to farming in State," mentioned an official release.

Farmers in Punjab blocked several ros including Amritsar-Delhi national highway and held agitations in different parts of state on Monday to protest farm ordinances promulgated by Centre.

While different farmers' outfits raised slogans against Centre for bringing "anti-farmer" ordinances and demanded ir rollback, commuters faced inconvenience due to ro blocke as authorities diverted traffic through or ros.

farmers are demanding a rollback of Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020.
