"Shattered the glass ceiling by all means": Mehbooba Mufti congratulates Nirmala Sitharaman for being the first woman to take charge as Finance Minister of India

Minutes after the new Modi Cabinet was announced by President Kovind, appointing former Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as the new Finance Minister and Minister of Corporate Affairs, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and congratulated her for her role as the new Finance Minister.

Minutes after the new Modi Cabinet was announced by President Kovind, appointing former Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as the new Finance Minister and Minister of Corporate Affairs, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and congratulated her on her new role.

In a tweet, former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti hailed Nirmala Sitharaman stating that she is the first woman to helm the crucial portfolio full time. Mufti further added that Sitharaman as the first woman Finance Minister shattered the "glass ceiling by all means". Read here:

Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharman has taken the charge to the office on May 31, minutes after the announced. She was joined by Anurag Thakur, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and DEA Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg at the occasion.

Nirmala Sitharaman has taken over from Arun Jaitley who served as the Finance Minister in the first Modi Cabinet. Notably, she is the first woman to take the position as the Finance Minister of India independently under Narendra Modi government after former PM Indira Gandhi, who served as the Finance Minister under her government as the Prime Minister. She had broken through the exact same glass ceiling when she had been appointed Defence Minister as well. 

Under her charge, Anurag Thakur has been appointed as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance as well as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

Apart from Nirmala Sitharaman, Amit Shah has been given the charge of Ministry of Home Affairs, with Nitin Gadkari as the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Minister of Water Resources, MSMEs and former foreign secretary S Jaishankar as the new Minister of External Affairs among others.
