In yet another bizarre incident in Uttar Pradesh, a Samajwadi Party leader has dressed like a groom to escape arrest by Uttar Pradesh Police and to meet SP leader Azam Khan. The SP leader from Sambhal Firoz Khan on Friday wore groom's sehra in an attempt to dodge the UP Police and enter the constituency of Rampur, where Section 144 has been imposed. Even after being caught by the Police, Firoz Khan extended support to the SP leader Azam Khan who is locked up due to several cases against him. UP Police has imposed Section 144 in the constituency to prevent any untoward incident that may hamper the law and order situation. Below are Firoz Khan's pictures dressed like a groom:
Cases against Azam Khan
In the last month, as many as 27 FIR has been filed against Samajwadi Party leader and Lok Sabha MP from Rampur alleging land-grab. The Uttar Pradesh Police informed that Khan has established Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in 2016, adding that he grabbed farmers' land for the university. The Police also added that cases has been registered against Khan under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement), 447 (criminal trespass), 389 (putting a person in fear of accusation of offense, in order to commit extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation). Samajwadi Party chief slams Yogi Adityanath
Slamming the Yogi government, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said that cases against Azam Khan were "politically motivated". He expressed his surprise on the number of FIRs against Azam Khan and alleged that they are being lodged to finish off the university founded by the SP leader. "They don't want the university to run and students to have a bright future. Political forces do not want to change in the lives of people. In political history, such a large number of cases have never been lodged against anyone. FIRs are being registered in matters that are 10-12 years old under pressure," Yadav alleged.
Samajwadi Party in General elections
Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party faced a major overhaul in the Lok Sabha elections, 2019. The party which once ruled the state won only 5 seats out of 38 contested. Moreover, its alliance with Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party failed to bring the magic numbers for any of the partners, instead seemed to favour the winning BJP. After the election, the SP-BSP alliance broke, with Mayawati pinning th blame on the attitude of SP leaders and Akhilesh Yadav declaring that his party will not join hands with anyone for elections. In a major move to consolidate its position in the state, SP chief dissolved the entire state unit of the party and is trying to re-work the party structure for assembly elections 2022.
