Sukhbir Badal urges PM Modi to not link farm stir with Sikhs; says 'address the issue'
SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal took umbrage at PM Modi's reference to the Sikh community during his reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address.

On Monday, S chief Sukhbir Singh Bal took umbr at PM Modi's reference to Sikh community during his reply to Motion of Thanks on President's dress. Lauding contribution of Sikhs to nation, PM stressed that langu used for this community by some people and attempts to misle m shall be harmful for India. This was seen in context of farmers protesting against three agrarian laws being described as "Khalistani terrorists" and or derogatory names.
However, Bal claimed that PM's remarks might furr alienate Centre among farmers. Stressing that farmers across country are united in seeking repeal of agrarian laws, he contended that it was inappropriate of PM Modi to link farm stir with one community alone. Moreover, he opined that focus should remain on dressing concerns raised by thousands of farmers who are protesting at Delhi borders for more than two months.

Impasse over farm laws
Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020 aims at freeing farmers from constraints of state Agriculture Produce Market Committees whereby y would be able to sell ir produce anywhere. Meanwhile, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 protects and empowers farmers to eng with processors, wholesalers, large retailers, exporters for farm services. Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 specifies that supply of foodstuffs including cereals, pulses, potato, edible oilseeds, and oils shall be regulated only under exceptional circumstances.
At present, talks between Union government and farmers' unions have come to a standstill. This is owing to fact that farm associations refused to agree to Centre's proposal for suspending implementation of aforesaid legislation for one and a half years. While last round of talks lasted for nearly 5 hours, farmers claimed that two sides sat face-to-face for less than 30 minutes. divide between two sides furr exacerbated on January 26 after farmers' tractor rally turned violent resulting in 510 Delhi police personnel getting injured and extensive dam to public property.
