UP CM Yogi Adityanath vows to bring law against 'Love-Jihad'; touts 'Mission Shakti'

Referring to a recent Allahab High court order, ityanath claimed that as HC h opposed changing religion solely for marri, his government too will bring a law based on it. This comment comes amid murder of a 21-year-old woman outside her college in Haryana's Ballabgarh, by her alleged stalker Tausif, after he failed to abduct her - which has termed as 'love jih' by BJP.

"Allahab High court said religion conversion for marri was t necessary. Government to will make a law based on this. Using 'Mission Shakti' we will keep mors and sisters safe. re will be 'Operation Satya' to protect women's dignity," he said ding, " I warn those who play with women's dignity, if y do t mend ir ways, n ir "ram nam satya hai" procession will be carried out."

Allahab HC order on religious conversion

On Friday, Allahab  High Court dismissed a writ petition filed by a married couple seeking stay on ir families from interfering in ir marri. court observed that Muslim-born woman converted to Hindu in June and n married as per Hindu rituals in July, clearly revealing that conversion has taken place only for purpose of marri. Ruling that conversion just for purpose of marri is unacceptable, High Court said it will t interfere in matter under Article 226, dismissing plea.

What is 'Love Jih'?

Love Jih is a term referring to an alleged campaign by Muslim men to convert Hindu girls under pretext of love. NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma has often claimed that Kerala has 'rampant' love jih, ding that y (alluding to Muslims) were luring women - t just Hindus, but even Christians and forcefully converting m in Kerala. Moreover, while  National Investigation ncy (NIA) stated that it h found a common mentor in some love jih cases in August 2017, Kerala police have stated repeatedly that re were evidence of attempted or forced conversion in such cases.

Uttar Presh by-polls

Seven state assembly seats in Uttar Presh will go to polls on vember 3 and results would be declared on vember 10. Of seven seats, five seats - Tundla, Ghatampur,  Naugaon, Bulandshahr, Deoria, Malhani are up for polls due to demise of sitting MLA - two due to COVID. or seat Bangarmau is up for polls due to BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was convicted in a rape case. As BJP h won six of seven seats in 2017, it has fielded 7 candidates. Surprisingly, Congress, BSP and Samajwi party too have fielded candidates on all seven seats each, hinting at a close battle in 2022 elections.
