West Bengal Police denies permission for PFI rally, TMC MP says 'not aware of any rally'
The WB police denied permission to the PFI for conducting a rally against the CAA and the NRC. A TMC MP clarified that he had nothing to do with the rally.

Popular Front of India (PFI) sought permission to take out a rally against newly passed Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in West Bengal's Murshidab district on January 5. PFI, through its posters, claimed that y h invited Trinamool Congress MP of Murshidab, Abu Taher Khan to be a part of rally. However, West Bengal Police denied m any permission to hold any rally on January 5.

'Have kwledge about this event'
Hasibul Islam, spokesperson of PFI in Murshidab said, "We are organizing a protest on January 5 against Citizenship Amendment Act in Murshidab. (TMC) MP Abu Taher Khan will also be a part of protest and he has been invited."
invitation has created a political controversy in Bengal although TMC MP from Murshidab has stated that he does t have any information whatsoever on invitation or rally by PFI on Sunday.

"I have kwledge about this event. If y have mentioned my name in ir poster, I can t do anything about it," claimed Abu Taher Khan. PFI was set up in 2006 as a federation of National Development Fund (NDF), which was formed in Kerala in 1993 and subsequently emerged as Manitha Neethi Pasarai (MNP) in Tamil Nu and Karnataka Forum for Dignity (KFD) in Karnataka.

BJP government in Uttar Presh h recently sent a report to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) requesting a ban on PFI. government of Chief Minister Yogi ityanath has accused organization and its political front, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) of masterminding and instigating violence during recent protests against CAA and proposed NRC. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Pras Maurya h claimed that PFI was incarnation of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Aims of PFI
SIMI is a banned organization that is accused of propagation of Islamist jih and establishment of Islamic rule in India. PFI claims on its website that it aims to move towards achievement of socio-ecomic, cultural and political empowerment of deprived and downtrodden and nation at large and puts forward its disapproval of ruling establishment which, it said, has empowered big business houses and urban and rural elite, as it igred basic needs of people below. It calls itself a socio-political movement that strives for empowerment of Muslims and or marginalised sections of society.
