National Press Day is celebrated on vember 16 to commemorate establishment of Press Council of India. Formed in 1966, Press Council keeps a check on quality of report provided by Indian press. It also ensures that journalistic objectivity is t compromised due to "influence or threats of any extraneous factors." Union Minister for Information and Broadcast and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar took to Twitter and tweeted, "Press freedom is essence of a vibrant democracy."
