Priyanka Gandhi Vadra questioned the pace at which the Uttar Pradesh Police and Yogi Adityanath's government is handing the BJP leader Chinmayanand rape case. Moreover, the Congress general secretary of East Uttar Pradesh alleged that the Yogi Adityanath dispensation's "antics" have made it clear that it has "nothing to do with women's security".

"The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, through its antics, has made it clear that it has nothing to do with women's security," Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi. Questioning the Uttar Pradesh Police, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked why the state government adopted a "lax approach" in dealing with the case.  "After all, why did the complainant girl had to come before the press to seek security? Why is the UP police going slow? Is it because the accused is from the BJP?" Priyanka Gandhi said.

Chinmayanand rape allegation

The postgraduate student, who had leveled harassment charges against Swami Chinmayanand, on Monday alleged she was raped by the BJP leader who also physically exploited her for one year. Addressing media persons here, she claimed that the Shahjahanpur police was not registering the rape case. "Swami Chinmayanand raped me and even exploited me physically for one year," she alleged before media persons, her face covered with a black scarf. The victim also approached the Delhi Police with a complaint accusing the BJP leader of raping her. A senior Delhi Police official said they received a complaint at a police station in the south district which has been forwarded to the special investigation team of the UP Police. "The Delhi Police has registered this complaint at the Lodhi Road police station and has forwarded it to Shahjahanpur police, which is not registering the rape case," she said. "On Sunday, the SIT quizzed me for about 11 hours. I have told them about the rape. Even after telling them everything, they have not arrested Chinmayanand yet," she said.

She alleged that when her father gave a complaint to police here about her physical exploitation, Shahjahanpur District Magistrate Indra Vikram Singh "issued threats", asking her father to file "a missing complaint" instead. "I have all the proofs. The hostel where I lived has been sealed. It should be opened in front of the media," she said, adding that she would give the proof, including video clips, at an opportune time against the 72-year-old BJP leader.

On the FIR registered by Chinmayanand's lawyer alleging that she was demanding Rs 5 crore, she said, "It should be probed. This is a fake allegation." "He (Chinmayanand) has ruined the lives of many girls. I can't tell the exact number. I am the only one to muster the courage and stand up," she added. The SIT, headed by Inspector General Naveen Arora, was set up by the Uttar Pradesh government on a Supreme Court directive. It is looking into the details of the probe conducted by the local police in the high-profile matter.

Kuldeep Sengar rape case

In June 2017, the 17-year-old rape survivor was allegedly raped by now-former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. After accusing him in April 2018, the survivor had attempted to self-immolate before the Uttar Pradesh chief minister's residence in her bid for justice. Following that, her father was assaulted, allegedly by the rape-accused BJP MLA's brother Atul Singh Sengar and the rape accused. Before succumbing to his injuries, the victim's father had named Atul Singh Sengar as his assaulter in video testimony. In April 2018, a case was registered against Unnao rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar under section 363, 366, 376, 506 and Pocso Act of Indian Penal Code and he was sent to jail. Sengar along with his brother Atul Singh is in jail since then. Delhi High Court judge arrived at Delhi's AIIMS hospital on Monday to record the statement of the survivor. The survivor was allegedly raped by former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The teen has been in AIIMS since July after the Supreme Court in a special hearing ordered the Uttar Pradesh Police to airlift the survivor. The SC has ordered to complete the trial of the Unnao rape case within 45 days.
