The Ministry of Railways on Monday commissioned a new railway line between Agartala and Sabroom, giving connectivity in the North-East a big boost. The cost of the project is Rs.3407 crore.

Ministry of Railway commissions 114.6 km Railway line

The new railway line passes through four districts of Tripura. The Ministry announced the development on social media.

Sabroom lies at the very southern tip of Tripura, with the railway line likely to extend connectivity to a number of places in between the two locations.

Tejas Express flagged off

IRCTC's Tejas express also started running from October 5. This train is being run between Delhi and Lucknow and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off the Tejas express on Friday and it is expected to cut down the travel time between Lucknow and Delhi by six hours. This came days after the Railways flagged the Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat express.

PM Modi flags off the world's first Diesel to electric Converted locomotive train

PM Narendra Modi in February had flagged off the world's first Diesel to electric converted locomotive train in Varanasi and also inspected the engines from inside. The project was aimed at saving energy cost and cut down carbon emissions. The Indian Railway has undertaken the mission to achieve 100% electrification and decarbonisation.

Railway bags 17 awards 

The Indian Railway bagged the 'National Energy Conservation Award' in 2018. This was the highest number of awards bagged by any organisation. The awards were given by the BEE(Bureau of Energy Efficiency) of Ministry of Power.
