Ravana effigy toppled by wind in Surat during Dussehra celebrations
A 60-feet tall Ravana effigy fell before it was set on fire in the Vesu area of Surat. The strong winds brought down the effigy during the Dussehra festival.

A 60-feet tall Ravana effigy fell before it was set on fire in the Vesu area of Surat. The strong winds brought down the effigy during the Dussehra festivities on Tuesday, October 8. No casualties and injuries were reported amongst the crowd of hundreds of people who had gathered to watch the demon king being burnt. This happened because the effigy fell on the opposite side of the crowd. The organizer of the event, Anil Agrawal said that it was not possible to set the effigy upright again quickly so the Ravana was torched while lying on his side. The effigy burnt amid the light rain in the city.
Dussehra Celebrations in Patna
As Surat witnessed this mishappening before the effigy of Ravana could be burnt, Patna celebrated Dussehra in a different style. Visitors from Russia and Ukraine revelled in the Dussehra celebrations in Patna. The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar also celebrated Dussehra in Patna. He was seen offering prayers and honouring the people who played Rama and Laxman in Ramleela. Also, two huge Ravana effigies were burnt in Patna's Gandhi Maidan on Tuesday.

Dussehra Celebrations in Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Dussehra celebrations at Ram Leela Maidan in Dwarka, New Delhi, on Tuesday. PM Modi delivered a message of women's empowerment in his speech and he also reiterated the mythological reference on how women are the incarnation of goddess Lakshmi. The Prime Minister added that the daughters of India are an 'avatar' of the deity. As per the customs, PM Modi at the celebration shot an arrow at a 107-foot Ravana effigy in Dwarka.

Apart from PM Modi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was also seen celebrating Dussehra at an event organised near Red fort. Arvind Kejriwal too torched the Ravana effigy by firing an arrow at it during the event. In his speech during the event, he congratulated all the Delhiites on slaying dengue in this season. He also reiterated that the pollution levels have been brought under control in Delhi because of their collective and preventive measures.
