'Rebuild Babri Masjid': JNU walls defaced ahead of Ram Mandir inauguration

New Delhi: Ahead of the Ram Mandi inauguration on January 22, JNU language department walls were defaced with slogans demanding 'Rebuild Babri Masjid'.  As per a few students, the graffiti was made last night, the photos of which went viral on Thursday. Republic TV sources suggested that the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has requested the varsity administration to look into the matter. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on the other hand, said it was unaware of the incident. 

This is not the first time the walls of JNU have been defaced. Several times they have become a medium for political messages. A couple of months back, several walls on the JNU campus were found defaced with messages of ‘Indian Occupied Kashmir’. ‘Free Kashmir’ and ‘Bhagwa Jalega’. Before that the walls of SL and SIS were painted with anti-Brahmin slogans, "There will be blood," etc.

For the unversed, there are no CCTV cameras inside the language department of JNU. A few days back, the Chief Proctor imposed a rule of up to Rs 10,000 for writing such controversial slogans.

Ram Mandir Inauguration 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the ‘pran pratishtha’ or consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla idol in Ram temple on January 22. Preparations are in full swing with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Ayodhya to take stock of preparations ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the temple town on December 30. 

A ceremonial gateway to the Ramjanmabhoomi temple site has been erected in front of the Birla Dharmshala and workers are giving finishing touches to it. The gateway is located near Hanumangarhi temple and leads to the site of the upcoming temple.

Heavy security has been deployed around the Hanumangarhi temple and roads leading to the temple complex construction site. A massive crowd is expected to descend in Ayodhya close to the consecration ceremony, and the city is getting decked up for the big day.
