Bengal forest dept begins vaccinating rhinos & captive elephants after deaths of 5 rhinos
Five Asiatic one-horned rhinos have died within a span of four days at the Jaldapara National Park in Bengal. Authorities vaccinating rhinos for anthrax.

Jaldapara National Park in Jalpaiguri district has recently anunced deaths on five Asiatic one-horned rhis within a span of 4 days. According to reports, rhis in area, as well as captive elephants, are being vaccinated against anthrax while authorities await autopsy report from 5 de rhis.
Drones and elephants used to patrol forest
According to sources, samples from de rhis have been sent to veterinary facilities and results from m are awaited. Sources have claimed that Ravi Kant Sinha, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, has been vised to give animals vaccines for anthrax and t to take any chances.

According to state Forest Minister Rajib Banerjee, a postmortem of five rhis was conducted and samples from m were sent to Bareilly and Kolkata and its results are awaited. Meanwhile, forest officials have reportedly fenced off parts of national park in an effort to t let domesticated animals into park. villrs close to park have also been vised to t take ir animals to national park for grazing.
Reports suggest that forest officials have even deployed drones, as well as forest guards that are mounted on trained elephants in order to patrol jungle and check for sick or de animals.

Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife, rth), Ujjal Ghosh said that forest staff has been put on high alert and that y have started vaccinating rhis within a 1-kilometre rius to where rhi carcasses were found. Even captive elephants that are used for patrolling have been vaccinated. officials have also initiated an awareness campaign for villrs in surrounding area.

Situated in foothills of Eastern Himalayas in Alipurduar subdivision in rth Bengal, Jaldapara National Park is spre over an area of 141 square kilometres and main attraction of park is one-horned rhi. It has been reported that re are 280 rhis in West Bengal and 250 of m are in Jaldapara.
