Salman Khurshid urges PM to support construction of both temple and mosque in Ayodhya

On Tuesday, senior Congress leer Salman Khurshid urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to also support construction of mosque apart from Ram Mandir. While ackwledging that people h accepted apex court's verdict on Ayodhya land dispute, he observed that court also directed construction of a mosque. According to Khurshid, this symbolized herit of our secular society. reafter, he opined that faith in religion was akin to faith in Constitution.

What is Ayodhya verdict?
re was a longstanding legal dispute about ownership of land in Ayodhya, which is considered as birthplace of Lord Ram. Allahab High Court gave its judgment on this disputed land in 2010, partitioning it among Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara, and Ram Lalla. reafter, 14 appeals were filed in SC against this judgment of Allahab High Court. Meanwhile, Ayodhya mediation panel submitted a report to SC outlining its proposals to solve dispute. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was part of this panel heed by former SC Justice Kalifulla.
Finally, Constitution bench of SC prounced a unanimous verdict on vember 9, 2019, awarding entire disputed area to Hindu parties. It directed Centre to formulate a scheme within three months which will be responsible for building a temple. On or hand, SC ordered that an alternative land of 5 acres in Ayodhya would be given to Sunni Central Waqf Board for construction of a mosque.

Nearly three months later, Prime Minister me anuncement pertaining to formation of Ram temple trust on floor of Lok Sabha on February 5. Named as 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra', trust held its first meeting on February 19. While Mahant Nritya Gopal Das was elected as president of trust, Nripendra Misra - former Principal Secretary to PM Modi was chosen to he Ram temple construction committee. PM Modi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Ram Mandir trust chief Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, UP CM Yogi ityanath, and UP Goverr Anandiben Patel shall attend Ram Mandir Bhoomi Pujan ceremony on August 5.
