Shashi Tharoor aims low jibe at Yogi Adityanath's holy dip, finds himself unable to resist passing a comment on people being unclothed at the Kumbh Mela

Hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Cabinet took a holy dip in the Sangam at Prayagraj, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor took a jibe at the group and also, seemingly, everyone who visits the Kumbh Mela. Taking to Twitter, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram attempted to make a remark contrasting the clean 'Ganga campaign' with the holy river being a place for cleansing 'sins', and added an immature comment about people being unclothed. 

"Ganga bhi swachh rakhni hain, aur paap bhi yahi dhone hain. Iss Sangam mein sab nange hain. Jai Ganga Maiya ki!" he said in a tweet. (Ganga has to be kept clean, and sins also have to be washed there. In this sangam (meeting point of rivers) everyone is naked. Hail Goddess Ganga!)

Tharoor's Tweet came after Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday met at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj for the first time and took a holy dip in the Ganga river at the Sangam ghat. UP CM Yogi Adityanath, along with his cabinet ministers took a dip at the Kumbh Mela.

At the same cabinet meeting, the group cleared the proposal to construct the longest 600 km Ganga Expressway.

"Cabinet has decided to make Ganga-Expressway, to connect Prayagraj with Western Uttar Pradesh. This will be the world's longest expressway, approximately 600 km, it will take 6,556 hectares of land, it will cost approximately Rs 36,000 crore," Adityanath said.

He also addressed the government's decision to file a petition in the Ayodhya matter amid the delay in construction of Ram Temple. Yogi Adityanath welcomed the Centre's move and said:

"It is welcome. I congratulate the Central government's decision and this is on one's own respect of faith and a dispute that has been going on for years. We've been telling this from the beginning, the application that has been sent by the Central government, we must get permission to work on the undisputed land ... We welcome the Central government's this move."
