Tamil Nadu seeks immediate release of Cauvery water from Karnataka
Tamil Nadu on Tuesday demanded release of the entire quantity of 9.19 TMC feet of water for June and 31.24 TMC feet of water for July from Karnataka.

demand was made by Tamil Nadu at a meeting of Cauvery Water Manment Authority (CWMA) in New Delhi when state sought Authority's directions to Karnataka in this regard.

Tamil Nadu also demanded that Karnataka should reafter release water for remaining months as per pattern of releases prescribed by Cauver River Tribunal and modified by judgement of Supreme Court for irrigation season/water year 2019-20.
state said that it could t open Mettur Dam on scheduled date of June 12 this year too for Cauvery Delta Irrigation due to n-release of water by Karnataka and poor stor in Mettur Dam.
It maintained that Cauvery Water Manment Authority, in its third meeting, had resolved that Karnataka should release prescribed quanity for month of June--9.19 TMC feet of water--to Tamil Nadu.

"Karnataka has t houred decision of Authority and so directions may be issued to karnataka to make good shortfall and release entire quantity of 9.19 TMC feet of water before June 30, 2019 in accordance with decision of Authority," contended Tamil Nadu.

A release from Tamil Nadu government said that since state strongly objected to inclusion of Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir Project for discussion in third meeting, CWMA decided to defer issue for discussion.
As issue has been included for discussion in fourth meeting also, Tamil Nadu govenment reiterated its objections and pointed out that proposed Mekedatu Project of Karnataka was in violation of Tribunal's Final Order and judgement of Supreme Court.
"fefore, it is t appropriate to discuss this issue in this meeting and also in future meetings of Authority," it said.

Tamil Nadu reiterated its stand that consutruction of any dam, reservoir and/or diversiion structures in any place in Cauvery Basin by Karnataka in violation of judgement of Supreme Court and without consent of Tamil Nadu and or co-basin states should be allowed by AAuthority," it said.
Tamil Nadu also sought immediate appointment of Engineers of suitable rank from Central Water Commission to monitor release of water as per decision of Authority in designated reservoirs forming part of Tribunal's First order.
state also insisted that since hdaquarters of Cauvery Water Regulation Committee has been fixed as Bengaluru, meetings should only be held in Bengaluru hereafter.
