Tejashwi Yadav slams Bihar government over 'Bihar's suffering'

Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, highlighted that the people in the state of Bihar have been left suffering during the heavy rainfall and floods in a Twitter post. He further added that this was because of the continuing war of words and the baseless politics between the members of the current JDU-BJP coalition government.

People are suffering

Yadav said that the constant cat and dog fight between the politicians has left people suffering huge losses. He also questioned the Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, whether he had formed an ethical government and whether he had put any thought in the formation of the policies and principles.

Bihar has been receiving extremely heavy rainfall over the last week and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the state will continue to receive even more rainfall over the weekend. More than 70 people have already lost their lives in the state and the relief measures are taking a lot of time because the water is not receding.

Grants from the Centre

The state is also falling short of money for rescue and relief measures and had earlier asked the Central Government for a grant to carry out the relief measures. The Home Ministry, on Friday, after assessing the situation in the state, approved an advance release of Rs 400 crore for relief measures from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) ‘on account basis’. The Ministry, upon seeing the fund positions in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) account, has also approved a release of the second instalment of the centre’s share of SDRF for 2019-20 worth Rs 213.75 crores. The Central Government, in a press release, on Friday said that it had been "providing full support to the State Governments by mobilizing/providing timely logistics and financial resources to supplement efforts of the State Governments to deal with the situation effectively in the wake of floods/ landslides. The logistics support provided includes an adequate number of teams of National Disaster Response Force, Indian Air Force and Coast Guard helicopters, Army columns, Navy & Coast Guard personnel along with necessary rescue equipment".

The floods have not spared anyone, including the Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi, who was seen evacuating his house with his family in a boat. BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav fell into a river after the boat he was trying to get out of, capsized.
