A 2-year-old boy, Sujith Wilson who was playing at his home at Nadukattupetti village of Manapparai taluka in Trichy district in Tamil Nadu, fell into a 600 feet unused bore well at 5.15 on Friday evening. He was stuck at the depth of 26 feet. When his parents realised that Sujith was missing for 20 minutes, they informed the local authorities immediately. The authorities rushed to the spot with the fire department to rescue the child.
The officials including the district collector, the police chief of the district reached the spot immediately. The rescue began at 6 pm when the fire and rescue department and the state disaster response force tried to use the traditional method of digging up another bore well parallelly to rescue the child. This method has been used in the past on many instances. The efforts of digging up a parallel hole didn't help as there were hard rock structures in just 10 feet of depth.
Rescue operation underway
As the mud was loose owing to the land being wet, the child slipped deeper into the borewell to 70 feet. The vibration of the earth moving machines when they tried to dig a parallel hole made the situation worse. The authorities also brought sophisticated equipment which was specially designed for such operations, but even this did not help. A pile of heavy mud has also covered the path, which has made the operation even more complicated.
The authorities also made the child's parents and relatives talk with him to pacify him. Sujith could be seen panicking through the camera which was sent inside.
The medical team rushed to the spot, ready with all the necessary medical aid. "Oxygen supply is been given to the child, we are making all the efforts to rescue the child safely," says the Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar.
The NDRF teams from Chennai have also reached the spot with all the equipment to rescue the child. A team from Neyveli lignite corporation is also been sent to the spot to read the rock structures and take appropriate steps. Various other teams with sophisticated instruments with the cameras are being used to track the child's condition. The NDRF who has reached the spot is going to use the drilling technique to rescue the child, said Rekha Nambiyar from the NDRF team.
The whole state is awaiting good news, as #SaveSujith and #PrayforSujith hashtags trend on Twitter.
