UP Floods: Over 900 prisoners shifted due to heavy rainfall

Of the 900 prisoners, 500 prisoners are being shifted to Azamgarh Jail and remaining to Ambedkarnagar, Additional District Magistrate, Ballia, Ram Asrey said

Due to heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh, authorities are forced to transfer nearly 900 prisoners from district jail in Ballia after floodwaters have entered barracks of district jail, as per officials. jail is located in low lying area near River Ganga. 

Of 900 prisoners, 500 are being shifted to Azamgarh Jail and remaining to Ambedkarnagar, Additional District Magistrate, Ballia, Ram Asrey said. ADM also mentioned that low lying areas have been flooded in region and as jail is situated near River Ganga which it is t possible to pump out water.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dushyant Kumar Maurya said that in Baria Tehsil area rains have severely hit life where an ashram in Keharpur vill has been submerged while a population of one lakh in about 15 vills is totally affected, as per reports.

According to reports, rth-Eastern Railway said traffic on Ballia-Chappra route has been hit after tracks were damd and repair work was on in full swing. Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mahesh Gupta, said "Rail tracks were damd early on Sunday morning and repair work is going on in full swing. About 20 trains on Ballia-Chappra route have been canceled while route of 20 ors has been changed."

IMD issues warning

Earlier on September 27, Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning over next 48 hours in several parts of Uttar Pradesh. According to warning, "Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some areas in district of Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Sombhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Balia, Mau, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Ambedkar Nagar and adjoining districts during next 48 hours.

CM Yogi Adityanath takes measures

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed divisional commissioners and district magistrates to take all measures and extend immediate relief to affected people, stated reports. He has also asked officials to visit flood-hit areas and examine situation. Furr, CM Adityanath has asked officials to extend monetary help of Rs 4 lakh each to next of kin of those killed, as well as arrange treatment for injured.
