Uttar Pradesh: All the details of the 36-hour-long special session

The marathon 36-hour-long special session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature, which started at 11 am on October 2 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi concluded on Thursday night. A resolution was passed in both the houses of the legislature i.e the Assembly and the Council, asking the state government to take effective steps to achieve the sustainable development goals set up by the United Nations while adhering to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

'Standard of living raised'

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath listed various welfare schemes and measures taken by the state government to achieve sustainable development goals. He said, "The government has worked to raise the standard of living of the people through 5-8 different schemes. In previous governments, food grains did not reach the beneficiaries. 3.55 crore families started getting wheat and rice in our government." The UP Chief Minister said that the government has to work on the goals set to eradicate poverty, hunger, unemployment from the world and added that 'Vision 2030' has been created to achieve the goals. He also said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken major steps to meet these goals." Adityanath said that the sustainable development goals will help Uttar Pradesh to move ahead as all the goals are interlinked. "The entire world is looking towards India, and India is looking towards UP," he said.

Adityanath criticized the opposition 

Yogi Adityanath also attacked the opposition parties for not attending the special session. He said, "We also spoke with the opposition leaders for the special session but the opposition did not desist from doing politics on this as well. These people consider disrupting their birthright. We are not working for any party but for the happiness of 23 crore people of the state. Today the opposition has been exposed. There is a historical discussion on sustainable development and betterment of the poor in the House. By disappearing from this, they proved that they have nothing to do with Gandhiji's philosophy nor the prosperity of the poor."

The CM called the session 'rare'

But, the CM also thanked the opposition leaders who participated in the special session for listening to the voice of conscience and for living to the values of democracy. "Such continuous events are a rarity. In democracy, communication should continue. It is the best weapon, and if communication is disrupted, then it may become the cause of 'upadrav' (clash)," he said. Referring to the attendance of the Legislative Assembly, he said that on Wednesday at around 12 midnight, 103 MLAs were present, at 1 am there were 88 MLAs, while at around 2 am, there were 78 MLAs present.
