Uttar Pradesh couple voices support for NRC, CAA on their wedding card

A couple in Sambhal district of Uttar Presh has found a unique way to express ir support for implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Mohit Mishra and Sonam Pathak, who are tying kts on February 3, have ded a Hindi line in bold letters on ir wedding card saying, "We support CAA and NRC."

Several protests h erupted across country after implementation of CAA and over proposed NRC. Uttar Presh is first state to have implemented CAA amid violent demonstrations all over state.

About CAA
CAA grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Banglesh. act is for groups that came to India on or before December 31, 2014. process of implementing CAA has started, with Uttar Presh becoming first state to start implementation process after Centre issued a gazette tification anuncing that CAA has come into effect from January 10, 2020.

re have been widespre demonstrations across country against contentious law for past several weeks. CAA was implemented in Uttar Presh amid massive protests in state. protestors are of view that law is "divisive" and "discriminative" for people. Moreover, Opposition asserts that law goes against constitutional rms.

About NRC
NRC is a register maintained by government containing important personal information for identification of all genuine Indian citizens. On apex court's order, NRC identified illegal immigrants from Assam. Though this has been a state-specific exercise to keep its ethnic uniqueness unaltered. Since its implementation, protests have erupted in several parts of country. With protests picking up against CAA, opposition to idea of a nationwide NRC also picked up.
