Good News: 700-km Long Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway to Connect 22 UP Districts

Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway:  A new expressway construction project is under consideration in Uttar Presh, connecting Gorakhpur to Shamli. This greenfield expressway, approximately 700 kilometers long, will link eastern Uttar Presh's Gorakhpur with western UP's Shamli, passing through 22 districts. construction of this expressway is expected to benefit a significant population in state, enhancing connectivity across Uttar Presh. Following Ganga Expressway and Gorakhpur Family Expressway, this initiative will help solidify state’s reputation for robust infrastructure.

Currently, re are plans in progress for Ganga Expressway, which will be approximately 1,000 kilometers long, making it longest in state. first phase of expressway, connecting Meerut to Prayagraj, is seeing expedited construction, while second phase, linking Prayagraj to Ballia, has also begun.

New Expressway: Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway

Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway, second longest expressway in state has been prepared by NHAI. It will connect 22 districts between Gorakhpur and Shamli, facilitating increased vehicle speed throughout region. Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this plan is currently being prepared, after which a complete blueprint will be unveiled.

Connection via Barabanki

Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway will pass through a substantial part of Barabanki, covering nearly 50 kilometers of district. Barabanki has been identified as a crucial area within Lucknow State Capital Region, making this expressway project particularly significant. Similar to Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressways, this new route will also include facilities for fighter aircraft take-offs and landings in emergency situations.

Complete List of 22 Districts Linked by Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway

Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway will pass through 22 districts, including Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Gonda, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Bahraich, Lucknow, Sitapur, Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, Baun, Bareilly, Rampur, Morab, Sambhal, Amroha, Bijnor, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, and Shamli. According to NHAI Project Director Saurabh Chaurasia, a DPR for expressway has not yet been created, and decisions regarding it will be me in next meeting.
