Paulo Coelho de Souza is a celebrated Brazilian writer, lyricist and novelist. It is a well-known fact that Paulo Coelho was only thirty-eight years old when he had a spiritual awakening, which he documented in his first book, The Pilgrimage. In 1982, he published his first novel, Hell Archives, it did not make a substantial impact upon the readers. After his pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in 1986, Paulo Coelho wrote The Pilgrimage, published in 1987. The following year he wrote The Alchemist which became a massive success. 1)     The Alchemist

The Alchemist was published in 1987. Paulo Coelho is best known for this novel. It brought him a lot of fame and success. The story is about a Spanish boy, Santiago, who leaves his life and job behind because he felt he had a bigger purpose in life. Believing that a Higher calling would help him find a path to reach his destination, he sells all his belongings and starts a venture to Egypt. The book is very insightful and creates an impact on the reader’s mind to follow one’s heart.

2)     Eleven Minutes

Eleven Minutes is another book to read from Paulo Coelho's collection. The book is about a young Brazilian girl, Maria, who at a young age was left heartbroken and was left to believe that love is an emotion that only brings pain. Later on, in life, she finds herself at a crossroad wherefrom she either choose the path of darkness that leads to physical pleasure or risks everything to find “inner light”, the possibility of sacred love.

3)     By the River Piedra, I Sat Down and Wept

This book got published in 1994 and is a book filled with emotional sentiments. The story is about two young lovers who got separated by fate only to get reunited later on. When they reunited, the girl had become an independent strong woman, while the boy had developed the power to heal people and a well known spiritual leader. Although both of them had learned over the years to suppress emotions and bury them deep inside their hearts when they met they could not hide their love for each other. But to stay together they have to make a compromise which will prove to change both of their lives. Will they be able to do it?
