- The first tip is to sieve the dry ingredients of the cake - flour, powdered sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder in a bowl.
- Always preheat the oven before you start baking. The minute the preheating timer goes off, you need to place the cake tin inside the oven.
- If you want a fluffy cake, make sure to beat the eggs well enough along with the powdered sugar till it gets a foam-like texture.
- Using a measuring cup or a digital scale to provide precision in each of your baking attempts.
- Make sure you use egg and butter at room temperature before mixing them together.
- Always grease your cake tin and sprinkle flour all over it before adding the cake batter.
- Prepare all the ingredients beforehand to aid you in a smooth baking process.
- Use a silicone brush to brush your pan, silicone beater and silicone spatulas for folding your batter as they are easier to clean.
- If you are somebody who bakes very often, get yourself a standing mixer as it will save you time and energy.

- Ingredients needed - 200g castor sugar, 200g unsalted butter, 4 eggs, 200g flour, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking powder, ½ tsp vanilla extract, 2 tbsp milk. For the frosting - choose a chocolate flavoured buttercream or fresh cream.
- Preheat the oven at 170-180 °C, take two 20cm round sandwich tins and grease them up.
- In a large bowl, add castor sugar, softened butter, eggs, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, vanilla extract, milk and a pinch of salt and mix until the batter becomes pale in colour.
- Divide the batter between the prepared tins and bake for 30 mins or until a toothpick comes out clean (if you pierce the toothpick through your cake).
- Take the tin out and set it aside to cool for 10 minutes.
- Frosting - Place one of the cake on the cake stand, spread the frosting over it, then set it by placing the second cake over it and voila your cake is ready.
