Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders lambasted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his comments on women on Tuesday (November 7) and said his speech in the Bihar state assembly was an insult to women. Notably, despite an apology issued by the Bihar CM on the floor of the house on Wednesday (November 8), in the aftermath of his remarks, widespread protests erupted in the country against him and a complaint was also filed in a court in Muzaffarpur over his explicit statements on population control.

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said, "He (Nitish Kumar) is a very senior leader and the statement by him is shameful, condemnable and painful...This shows their established low mentality for women..."

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad claimed that Nitish Kumar's apology was not genuine. "What obscene language have you (Nitish Kumar) used? It's shameful to even repeat it...It is dirty thinking...Is democracy a joke?...Your apology is not sincere."

‘Bihar CM Nitish Kumar should resign’

On Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's statement on population control, BJP leader Vijay Sinha said, "His statements are to shame women. This is the land of the Maa Janki. The whole country saw how he embarrassed women in the Assembly. CM has lost his memory... He should resign. He is no longer worthy of sitting in the Assembly."

Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur lashed out at the silence of the I.N.D.I.A bloc leaders over the comment, “The Chief Minister of Bihar used such objectionable language to our mothers and sisters in the Assembly and all the leaders of the INDI alliance are sitting with their lips sealed. Why? Such an insult to women's power?” he said.

Earlier, the Bihar CM had said, "When men do it to women, educated women know how not to get pregnant." Significant public outcry was sparked by Ntithes' sexist and misogynist remarks in the legislature, which objectified women, with many criticising him that the CM, in his population control speech, gave men free rein to treat women like objects and shifted the onus of birth control only on women.
